A container with more than 100,000 counterfeit garments seized in the port of Algeciras

A joint operation by the Tax Agency and the Guardia Civil

June 29, 2022.- The Risk Analysis Unit (UAR) of the Algeciras Customs, made up of Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency and Civil Guards from the Tax Analysis and Investigation Office (ODAIFI) of the Algeciras Command, have intervened in the facilities of the port of Algeciras a container that was transporting more than 100,000 counterfeit textile garments.

As part of the risk analysis and inspection work carried out daily at the port of Algeciras, the agents detected a container from China, the contents of which may not correspond to the declared merchandise.

Based on this suspicion, the container was opened and more than 100,000 items of clothing from well-known international brands were found inside, which are believed to have reached a market value of more than six million euros.

The items, mainly men's underwear and sweaters, were high-quality replicas in their finish, as verified by the agents and later confirmed by the experts of the affected brands, and were intended for sale on the market.

Following numerous investigative efforts, the agents have been able to locate the companies responsible for the shipment, whose sole directors have been arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime against industrial property.

The detainees, along with the proceedings carried out and the confiscated items, have been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
