A large indoor marijuana plantation with 3,200 plants and 70 kilos of buds has been dismantled

  • The plantation was located in a large warehouse, with an area of more than 600 square meters and two floors, where a complex facility for growing marijuana was located.
  • Four individuals of Spanish nationality arrested as alleged perpetrators of crimes of smuggling and fraud of electric power

July 21, 2023.- Customs Surveillance Officers of the Tax Agency belonging to the Cadiz Operational Unit have completed the operation called 'Vaqueriza' against marijuana cultivation, which has resulted in the dismantling of a macro-plantation in Jerez de la Frontera.

The investigation began at the beginning of this year, when Customs Surveillance agents in Cadiz detected an alleged marijuana plantation inside a goat farm, located in the district of San Isidro de Guadalete, belonging to the municipality of Jerez de la Frontera.

Based on these indications, the necessary investigations were initiated to identify the people who accessed the farm, resulting in several of them having records for smuggling and public health offences due to their involvement in other 'indoor' marijuana plantations.

Furthermore, through the electricity supply company it was found out that the farm did not have a supply contract and that consumption was very high, so everything indicated the existence of a large marijuana plantation.

Once the alleged perpetrators were identified, the court on duty in Jerez de la Frontera ordered the entry and search of the livestock farm in question, which was carried out on 6 July.

After gaining access to the interior, Customs Surveillance investigators from the Cadiz and Jerez de la Frontera Units found a large warehouse, with a surface area of more than 600 square metres and two floors, where they located a complex installation for growing marijuana, with spotlights, fans, filters, air extraction machines, transformers, a drying room, vacuum packing machines and other equipment.

A total of 3,200 marijuana plants and more than 70 kilos of buds were seized, and four individuals of Spanish nationality were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime of smuggling and against public health and another of defrauding electricity.

Likewise, at the time of the entry and search, a fifth individual who was inside the ship managed to escape.

Both the detainees and the seized goods have been placed at the disposal of the Duty Court of Jerez de la Frontera.

The investigation is still open by Customs Surveillance investigators with the aim of reaching a full clarification of the events and locating the fifth individual who managed to escape, so it is not ruled out that more arrests will be made in the coming days.
