May 23, 2023 .- The Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency, together with the National Police, has intervened in the port of Algeciras a container that, together with its declared legal cargo (corn seeds), was transporting 16 sacks with a total of 322 kilos of cocaine. The container had departed from Brazil and was headed for the Algerian town of Oran.

The operation began when investigators learned of the imminent arrival in Algeciras of a container carrying corn seeds that had allegedly been "contaminated" with cocaine.

Once the information was analysed and compared with the information in the Tax Agency databases, the number of a suspicious container from South America, specifically from Brazil, transporting sacks of corn seeds with the destination port of Oran was obtained.

After the container was identified and located, a physical inspection was carried out, and a total of 16 'contaminated' bags were found, containing a white, floury substance that, when subjected to the 'narcotest', tested positive for cocaine.

The total weight of the narcotic substance amounted to approximately 322 kilograms of cocaine.

The assets and the drugs have been placed at the disposal of the on-duty judge of the Algeciras court.
