Three arrested for bringing 18 kilos of cocaine into Mallorca

  • Six months of investigation, led by Palma's 6th Court of Instruction, have led to the arrests and apprehension

  • The drugs were hidden in a false bottom of a van in which two of the detainees were traveling. The third, the recipient of the stash, traveled that same night in another vehicle and was in charge of distributing it throughout different neighborhoods of Palma.

November 2, 2023.- The Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency and the National Police have arrested two men and a woman, all of Spanish nationality, aged between 37 and 45, and with various police records, for introducing about 18 kilos of cocaine into the island of Mallorca.

The investigation, which was launched months ago by the Customs Surveillance Service and which was joined by Group I of Narcotics of the Balearic Islands High Command, is being led by the Court of Instruction No. 6 of Palma. It was conceived after learning of the activities of a person who was allegedly engaged in introducing narcotic substances using hidden vehicles that travel in the holds of the shipping companies that operate on the islands.

One of the men and the woman disembarked last Tuesday at the port of Palma, from Barcelona, aboard a van to go directly to the home of the third detainee, where they were intercepted. The narcotic substance was found in a hidden compartment of the van and is believed to be worth more than half a million euros on the black market.

The agents have been able to confirm the collusion between the two men, as they both met at different points in Catalonia, subsequently travelling in separate vehicles and on different boats to Mallorca the same night, as a security measure.

Furthermore, during the investigation it was found that one of the suspects had been involved in the distribution of cocaine in various neighborhoods of Palmas, known for the existence of retail drug sales points.

Recent drug seizures show that port areas are one of the main routes of entry for narcotic substances into Mallorca.

The three detainees were brought before Palma's Court of Instruction No. 9, which was acting as on-call court, and which ordered the imprisonment of two of the suspects.
