More than 20 kilos of tobacco seized at Valencia airport

  • One of the passengers on an international flight was carrying 20,629 grams of chewing tobacco in his suitcase

December 20, 2024.- Officials from the Customs and Civil Guard of Valencia, in their work of controlling passengers and luggage, have proceeded to draw up a smuggling report to a man for trying to introduce more than 20 kilos of chewing tobacco into Spain.

The operation took place on December 7 at 4:15 p.m., when a patrol was set up by Civil Guard officers in the arrivals hall of Valencia airport. The purpose was to control passengers and luggage arriving on international flights.

The agents controlled the arrival at the airport of a flight with the following stopovers: Delhi-Abu Dhabi-Rome-Valencia.

After several passengers were checked, one of them, who had come from Delhi airport, said when questioned by the officers that he had nothing to declare. Following normal procedure, your luggage was scanned by an X-ray scanner.

After the aforementioned examination, the image showed some plates of organic matter at the bottom of the suitcase, so, when opened in his presence, it was observed that it contained a multitude of regular medium-sized packets of chewing tobacco.

The packets were then counted, yielding a total of 20,629 grams of tobacco distributed in 3,016 packets. For all these reasons, the Customs technician, together with the Fiscal and Border Protection agents proceeded to draw up a smuggling report for an Indian man trying to introduce the aforementioned amount into the country.
