Although the "narcotest" indicated that it was MDMA, previous research suggests that it could actually be a drug classified as new psychoactive substances.

The package, containing 106 grams of the substance, had been sent to Extremadura by a parcel company from Burgos.
January 30, 2024.- Customs Surveillance officials of the Tax Agency have arrested a person for trafficking drugs sent by parcel and have seized 106 grams of narcotic substance.
The operation began when the Burgos Customs Surveillance Operational Unit, following prior investigations, inspected a package at the logistics centre of the transport company, located in Miranda de Ebro, for being suspected of transporting drugs.
The researchers performed a "narco test" on the substance, resulting in a positive result for MDMA with a trace of cocaine.
Following these preliminary actions, authorization was received from the Investigating Court No. 2 of Miranda de Ebro to carry out a controlled delivery of the package, which originated in the Netherlands and was destined for Almendralejo.
Thus, on December 29, the controlled delivery operation was established, with prior notification to the holder of the Mixed Investigation Court No. 3 of Almendralejo on duty.
In the operation, carried out by the Badajoz Customs Surveillance Operational Unit, the recipient of the package was arrested for the alleged commission of a drug trafficking crime.
The detainee was taken to the offices of the Badajoz Operational Unit for the various proceedings to be carried out, and the head of the court on duty was informed.
In addition, investigators proceeded to seize the substance contained in the package, considering that a crime against public health was being committed.
Although the "narcotest" carried out indicated that it was MDMA, previous investigations and the morphological and appearance characteristics of the seized substance suggest that it is actually a psychoactive substance from the group known as "cathinones", a drug classified as a new psychoactive substance (NPS). These new psychoactive substances or "designer drugs" pose a risk to people's health, and their trafficking has become a global phenomenon. UNODC and the National Plan on Drugs warn of the dangers posed by these substances, especially among young people.
The final analysis of the content will be carried out by the competent toxicology institute.
