46 inspections carried out in parcel companies and customs facilities in Tenerife to control the content of shipments

  • Four people investigated for various crimes against public health and industrial property

  • 160 high-end counterfeit watches, 2,685 boxes of illegal medicines, 2.5 kilos of hashish and 7 kilos of marijuana have been seized

July 19, 2024.- The Customs Surveillance Unit and the Customs Administrators of the Tax Agency, in collaboration with the Civil Guard, within the framework of their duties as the State Tax Guard, and complying with the 'Police Response Plan to Drug Trafficking, as well as the Illegal Trade of other objects using Postal Delivery', have recently carried out a total of 46 inspections in parcel companies and customs premises, regarding which proceedings have been initiated in which four people are being investigated as alleged perpetrators of various crimes against public health and industrial property.

During the course of the inspections, 160 counterfeit watches from a well-known luxury brand, 2,685 boxes of illegal medicines, 2.5 kilos of hashish, almost 7 kilos of marijuana and more than 10 jars of resin, a multitude of cigarettes/joints and various quantities of other cannabis products, such as 'cookies', 'chocolates', etc. were seized.

The modus operandi used to send out shipments containing prohibited substances or counterfeit objects was almost always the same, of foreign origin and never having a real physical or legal person as the sender or recipient, thus trying to make it difficult for the police to solve the crimes. However, the necessary evidence has been gathered to identify the accused.

In two of the first inspections carried out at a parcel company, the agents detected a package that raised their suspicions, which is why it was opened, finding inside several hermetically sealed bags pretending to be a package of sweets that, however, contained marijuana buds inside, ready for sale.
