July 3, 2024.- Officials from the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency and agents from the National Police, within the framework of operation 'Sparrow', have dismantled an organized group of South American origin that was dedicated both to the introduction of narcotics into Spain, as well as their subsequent adulteration and distribution.

In February of this year, the first phase of the investigation was carried out with the interception in the port of Mallorca of an individual of Ecuadorian origin when he tried to enter the island of Mallorca with a kilo of cocaine camouflaged in a wheelchair.

The second phase of the operation took place last June, when two of the suspects – of Cuban and Dominican origin, respectively – carried out a drug transaction in public, being arrested at the same time by officials of the National Police and Customs Surveillance.

Following these arrests, three house searches were carried out by court order, and in one of these homes a large clandestine laboratory was found that was being used to transform and adulterate cocaine.

During the searches, two kilos of cocaine, a large quantity of precursor and cutting substances (caffeine, boric acid, methylsufonylmethane), more than 7,000 euros in cash, moulds, sieves and a hydraulic press were seized.

In the last phase of the operation, already at the beginning of July, and within the framework of the joint operation carried out by the Customs Surveillance Service and the Udyco Narcotics Group I, five properties were searched, leading to the arrest of seven people, one of them in the city of Madrid.
