• The seized tobacco would be valued at 17,000 euros

June 12, 2024.- The Tax Agency and the Civil Guard have intercepted two women at Palma airport who were trying to enter Mallorca from Athens with 3,000 packs of cigarettes, valued at 17,000 euros.

On June 3, a flight from Athens (Greece) arrived at Palma airport. After carrying out a risk analysis of the passengers, officials from the Tax Agency and agents from the Civil Guard detected two people who raised suspicions, so a discreet surveillance device was set up on them to carry out the appropriate inspections.

Once the passengers were detected, they were monitored inside the arrivals terminal. After the waiting suitcases were taken away, they both hurriedly set off to leave the terminal. At that time they were intercepted by Civil Guard agents, who took them to the airport Customs facilities for luggage inspection.

When inspecting their luggage, the officers observed that the women were carrying four large suitcases and two travel bags, all of them filled with packets of contraband cigarettes.

After the inspection, all the tobacco was seized, valued at 17,000 euros, and a complaint of smuggling was issued by the Tax Agency and the Civil Guard, which can lead to fines of up to three times the value of the tobacco seized.
