Eight vehicles stolen in the United States intercepted in the port of Algeciras

  • The vehicles arrived at the port of Algeciras in four containers from the port of Newark (United States)
  • The market value of the recovered vehicles amounts to more than 390,000 euros

May 20, 2024.- The Risk Analysis Unit (ULAR), made up of Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency and Civil Guards from the Fiscal and Border Company of the port of Algeciras, has intercepted eight stolen vehicles in four containers from the United States at the facilities of the port of Algeciras.

As a result of the control, identification and inspection work on containers, destined for or in transit through Spain, carried out daily by the ULAR at the container terminal in the port of Algeciras and after a thorough analysis, the agents detected four containers from the port of Newark (United States), the contents of which may not correspond to the declared merchandise.

Given their suspicions, the agents opened the containers, finding inside eight high-end vehicles with a market value of more than 390,000 euros.

Following appropriate checks, in collaboration with US liaisons, the agents confirmed that the vehicles had been stolen in the United States.

The vehicles were seized in order to return them to their country of origin to be delivered to their respective owners. The corresponding proceedings have been initiated regarding the facts, which have been made available to the judicial authority.
