A marijuana plantation with more than 1,300 plants hidden in an industrial warehouse in San Pedro del Pinatar has been dismantled.

  • The warehouse had a very elaborate lighting and air conditioning system to optimize the growth of the plants, which were in an advanced stage of maturation.

  • So far, two people residing in the towns of Los Alcázares and Alcantarilla have been arrested and have been brought before the San Javier Court of First Instance and Investigation.

April 2, 2025.- Customs Surveillance Officers of the Tax Agency in Murcia and National Police officers arrested two middle-aged men on March 17 as alleged perpetrators of an indoor marijuana plantation located in an industrial warehouse in the "Las Beatas" industrial estate in the town of San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia), who are charged with the alleged crimes of smuggling and against public health, as well as electricity fraud.

The operation began with investigators conducting surveillance of a suspicious industrial warehouse. These actions confirmed the existence of a marijuana plantation at the facilities under investigation. Furthermore, it was found that the warehouse had been fraudulently connected to the electricity distribution grid. The marijuana plantation's owners had allegedly established this to avoid the high electricity costs required by these facilities.

Customs Surveillance investigators and the National Police established a joint operation around the premises under investigation, and once the perpetrators left the facility, they were intercepted after they attempted to flee. In this escape attempt, the suspects attacked the vehicles driven by the officers. Once the suspects were arrested, investigators were able to confirm the existence of the marijuana plantation once inside the warehouse.

In addition to the plants, the plantation also included four industrial-grade air conditioning units, 32 fans, three humidifiers, 89 lighting fixtures, six carbon filters, and the respective protection panels for all the electrical equipment, consisting of several circuit breaker strips and transformers. The van that the suspects were driving was also seized.

Furthermore, the presence and collaboration of technicians from the energy supply company was necessary to eliminate the risk of fire and to disconnect the electrical connections that had been made fraudulently and without the necessary safety measures.

The detainees have already been handed over to the San Javier Court of First Instance and Investigation on Duty. The operation remains ongoing, and new identifications are not ruled out in the coming days.
