A container with more than 5,000 counterfeit garments intercepted in the port of Algeciras

January 4, 2025.- The Risk Analysis Unit (ULAR), made up of Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency and civil guards from the Fiscal and Border Company of the port of Algeciras, has intercepted a container at the port facilities containing more than 5,000 counterfeit garments.
As a result of the control, identification and inspection work on containers destined for or in transit through Spain that the ULAR carries out daily at the container terminal in the port of Algeciras and after a thorough analysis, the agents detected a container from the port of Nansha (China), the contents of which may not correspond to the declared merchandise.
Based on these suspicions, the agents opened the container and found that it contained more than 5,000 items that reproduced the symbols or emblems of internationally renowned brands.
Among the items found, valued at more than one million euros, are some exact replicas of handbags and sports shoes, as well as various computer equipment.
Following the appropriate checks, in collaboration with the legal services of the affected brands, and once it was certified that the products were counterfeit, the goods were seized for subsequent destruction.
The corresponding proceedings have been initiated regarding the facts, which have been made available to the judicial authority.
