March 11, 2025.- Customs Surveillance Officers of the Tax Agency, within the framework of Operation 'Victoria', have seized 8,980 counterfeit products valued at 1,436,800 euros in the town of El Portús, on the Spanish-French border in Girona, and have taken statements from three people as suspects.
The operation took place on February 25, when Customs Surveillance officers inspected three commercial establishments. The stores had a section open to the public, with counters where virtually all the merchandise was private label, except for a small number of sneakers, T-shirts, and handbags.
However, after conducting a thorough analysis of the premises, various doors disguised as walls or mirrors were found in each store, allowing access to hidden warehouses filled with counterfeit clothing. One of the inspected stores had a false wall that led to another store complete with shelves full of sportswear, shoes, belts, and perfumes.
After requesting the assistance of several experts, they confirmed in an initial inspection that the merchandise was counterfeit. A total of 8,980 products were seized, including sneakers, sportswear, coats, handbags, purses, belts, perfumes, and eyewear, as well as boxes and logos that had not yet been used. The estimated value of the goods could amount to 1,436,800 euros.
In addition, the three managers of the commercial establishments have been questioned.
Aware of the serious economic and social damage caused by the counterfeit business, the fight against counterfeiting and piracy is one of the Tax Agency's priority areas of investigation, thereby combating the danger counterfeit goods pose to consumers and the unfair competition they pose to the business sector.
A total of 40 officers from the Central Special Investigations Unit of the General Subdirectorate of Operations and Customs Surveillance operational units in Girona and Barcelona participated in the operation, with support from the Intervention Group Unit.
