Period of coexistence of the declaration of temporary storage (G4) and the notification of presentation of the goods (G3) by air and sea
On January 1, 2024, for goods arriving by air, and on March 1, 2024, for goods arriving by sea, the possibility of sending G3 messages (notification of presentation of goods) and G4 (temporary storage declaration) was opened in the production environment.
At that time, a period of coexistence began during which one could choose to present the current (DSDT) or to send the aforementioned G3 and G4 messages. This possibility was extended, both in the air and maritime fields, until the application of Regulation (EU) 2019/1239 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 establishing a European maritime single window environment (scheduled for 15 August 2025).
Regardless of the final date of entry of the maritime single window, the period of coexistence of the G3 and G4 messages, on the one hand, and the DSDT, on the other, in the air sector will be set, so that this period will conclude on January 15, 2026 . From that date, air DSDT will no longer be accepted and only G4 and G3 messages may be declared.
Please note that G5G and G5S messages, which allow the movement of goods in temporary storage declared under a G4 message, will be in production on 3 March 2025, so if movements of goods in temporary storage are planned, it is not advisable to start declaring G4 messages by air before this date.
Another important factor to take into account is that pre-CAU import declarations cannot refer to G4 as a preceding document, only to the DSDT. It is therefore advisable to start declaring imports adapted to the UCC (Union Customs Code) as soon as possible to avoid problems with imports of goods that enter temporary storage through a G4 message.
Finally, the period of coexistence of G4 and G3, on the one hand, and DSDT, on the other, by sea will continue to be linked to the entry of the maritime single window, the final date of which has not yet been defined.
