Customs declaration and other controls
Before goods can circulate freely within the European Union or be transported to other countries, they are subject to various types of customs controls.
-
Customs declaration , for import or export, which must be submitted to identify the merchandise and state its intended destination. In Spain, these types of procedures are usually carried out by customs representatives, who act as intermediaries between individuals and the Administration, and are considered collaborators.
-
Inspection of the goods , to verify the veracity of the declaration.
-
Verification that the rules on trade policy that the European Union establishes for its exchanges with other countries have been observed.
-
Payment of import or export duties, when required by current legislation. They are called customs tariffs .
Once these procedures have been completed the customs authorities grant the of the goods so that, as the case may be, they can enter or leave the Customs Territory of the Union.
Another type of movement of items, which requires specific processing, is the transit through the European Union of goods that have their origin and destination in countries outside of it or, in another case, the passage from one country to another in the Union through a non-member State of the same.
