Borders of Spain and the European Union
Since 1993, the date of the implementation of the Single European Market, there are no longer physical borders between the different Member States of the European Union (then 12 countries and currently 27). This means that goods and people with luggage can move freely from one Member State to another within the Union without administrative controls.
Therefore, the borders, which determine the tax and trade regime for goods within a given territory, were established in 1993 between all the countries of the European Union and the other countries. Since then, the focus has been on controlling the exchange of goods between European Union member states and "third countries" outside the EU.
