Section VI: Safety and security requirements

[Article 39(e) UCC, Article 28 EA UCC ; AEO Guidelines, Part 2, Section 5; Annex 2 of the AEO Guidelines, point 4]

Note:

This section addresses the safety and security criteria for the AEO. You only need to complete it if you are applying for AEOS authorization. In relation to this requirement, the self-assessment must cover all facilities where the applicant carries out customs activities.

You must demonstrate a high level of awareness regarding safety and security measures, both internally and in the context of your work with clients, suppliers, and external service providers, taking into account your role within the international supply chain.

Under no circumstances should you confuse these requirements with health and safety requirements (see AEO Guidance).

In principle, all the procedures mentioned in this section should be sufficiently detailed to: a) clearly determine the person in charge and his or her alternate(s), and b) allow the alternate to act according to the guidelines of the person in charge.

All procedures must be documented and made available to the customs authority during the AEO criteria audit. These criteria will always be verified on the ground.

The documents you are required to submit, in particular in relation to questions 6.1.1 a) and b), must reflect

  • its role in the international supply chain,
  • the nature and size of your business, and
  • the risks and threats that loom over your company.
